Easter at home – fun things to do with the family

Easter is a holiday celebrated around the world, welcoming spring, friends, family and lots of eggs (preferably chocolate!). Steeped and founded on religious Christian faith rituals commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there are many ways to celebrate this Spring holiday. From spiritual celebrations like Holy Week and Lent, to Easter egg hunts and baskets of wonderful pastries or flowers.

To help you get ideas for this year, we have assembled a list of fun things to do with your family:

  1. Easter Egg hunt (a classic!): A highlight for many kids around the world is the traditional Easter egg hunt! Finding and eating little chocolate eggs is exciting for both young and old. Easy to adapt to indoors or outdoors, and as a bonus you may end up finding chocolate eggs for months to come! It can of course also be done with painted boiled eggs. Looks for little corners, open drawers, boxes or in the fruit bowl. Anywhere is a potential hiding spot!
  1. Decorations: Easter is also a time for beautiful decorations such as colorful flowers, Easter baskets, and decorated eggs. Dye Easter eggs in creative ways with natural dyes or colorful food coloring. These decorations create a festive atmosphere and add to the joy of the holiday. If you are feeling creative, you can prepare some DIY craft decorations in advance such as a Easter wreath or paper decorations.
  1. Easter parades: A fun family outing during the weekend are to go see a Easter parade with festive floats and performers.
  1. Family gathering: Easter is a time when families come together to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company. This is a great opportunity to catch up with loved ones and share stories, meals, and traditions.
  1. Delicious food - Easter brunch or dinner: Take the opportunity to celebrate with extended family and have a special meal together. Think lovely pastries such as hot cross buns, Easter breads filled with raisins, almonds or other fillings. Or traditional meals such as roasted lamb with spring vegetables (hello asparagus!) and dauphinoise potatoes. As a starter, you could be looking at a simple mint & pea soup, deviled eggs or a Matzo ball soup. Or the local favorite, white asparagus served with hollandaise sauce and ham. Don’t forget to decorate the table with seasonal flowers such as tulips, hyacinths or daffodils. Or depending on the weather perhaps you could even do a picnic.
  1. Church service: Many people attend church on Easter Sunday, considered one of the most significant day of the Christian calendar.
  1. Charity and giving: Easter is a time for charity and giving, with many people choosing to donate to their favorite charities or volunteer. Spring your closets and give back to the community, helping those in need.

These traditions of course vary from country to country and will not be observed by some. You don’t have to be religious to celebrate Easter. It is also a moment to celebrate Spring! Representing new beginnings, return of life and renewal. The colorful flowers, warmer weather and longer days make it a perfect time for outdoor activities.

How will you celebrate the Easter holiday this year?
